Signing of a partnership agreement between cities from Finland and Ukraine at the 8th ECoLG

During the 8th European Congress of Local Governments in Mikolajki, a partnership agreement was officially signed between the City of Loviisa from Finland and the City of Varash from Ukraine.

Both cities have in particular the fact that they are both nuclear energy towns. The Mayor of the City of Varash, Oleksandr Menzul, declared that cooperation between the cities would foster contacts between industry workers and scientists from Ukraine and Finland to ensure energy security in Europe. Joint training courses and visits for the exchange of experience were announced.

In addition, as the Mayor of Loviisa Jan D.Oker Blom emphasised, the agreement is an expression of support for Ukraine and a basis for deepening cooperation also in the political, economic, democracy, education or administrative fields. Mayor Loviisa also emphasised the need for the integration of Ukrainians residing in Finland and the housing of Ukraine in the long term.
