“NATO: 1949-1999-2019. 20 Years of Poland in the 70 Years of the Alliance” 03 December 2019 Publikacje In November 2019, the Institute for Eastern Studies completed the project “NATO: 1949-1999-2019. 20 Years of Poland in the 70 Years of the Alliance”, which was created with the financial support of the Department of Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of the Public Diplomacy 2019 competition. The project included 11 presentations in European capitals, one debate in Washington and a meeting during the Economic Forum in Krynica-Zdrój The Institute, in cooperation with foreign partners, organized meetings in: Vienna (20.09), Tirana (25.09), Madrid (22.10), Berlin (25.10), Vilnius (31.10), Zagreb (5.11), Washington, D.C. (13.11), London (18.11), Tallinn (20.11), Prague (21.11), Podgorica (28.11), Paris (28.11) The main objective of the project was to present Poland’s contribution to the development of NATO and its achievements in this field over the last 20 years. The basic tool in organizing the presentation – and a very important element of the project – was a publication: “NATO: 1949-1999-2019. 20 Years of Poland in the 70 Years of the Alliance”. The document includes 6 articles written by: Kinga Redłowska, Greta Tuckute and Liudas Zdanavicius, Martin Heranova and Alexandr Vondra, Alba Cela and Ledion Krisafi, Donald Jensen and Jean-Vincent Holeidre. The publication has a wide variety of approaches to the 70th anniversary of NATO and presents various aspects of the problem from the perspective of other member states. More than 40 experts from Poland and other countries – representing our partners, local authorities and specialists – took part in the debates as the speakers. During the debates, both topics concerning Poland – its 20th anniversary in the Alliance – as well as issues directly related to the place of the presentation, such as the security of the Visegrad Group, the presence of Western Balkan countries in NATO structures or transatlantic relations, were discussed.
