Day 5, Russian Aggression on Ukraine – Experts’ Comments

Throughout its 30 years of life, the Centro Studi Internazionali (CSI) has always tried to analyse international relations with the conviction that research is a crucial tool to emphasise knowledge sharing among individuals all over the world. In this context, we have always stressed the maintenance of peaceful relations as a vital prerequisite without which it would be impossible to pursue such a knowledge sharing. What is happening in Ukraine, with the recent military attacks pursued by the Russian Federation, represents exactly the opposite of what the CSI, with its research, has always tried to achieve. Hence, the use of force as a method of coercion and the attacks addressed to civilians by Russia is something we hereby firmly condemn. We call upon all members of the international community to work together and try, in every way possible, to avoid what seems to be a war in all of its aspects. The mere idea of war is something that should not be not even an abstract utopia, by virtue of the existing international law norms ruling our societies, and for the disastrous consequences this would create in this utmost complex historical period. We thus urge everyone in academia, civil society, political and business worlds to do whatever in their powers to influence the outcome of this military escalation, praying for a serious and comprehensive diplomatic action as a tool for resolution of international disputes.
