Special Representative for the Eastern Partnership from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a guest of the Europe-Ukraine Forum

Hans-Jürgen Heimsoeth – German diplomat and former German ambassador to Ukraine confirmed his participation at the 13th Europe Ukraine Forum.

He will speak in the following debate: “Eastern Partnership: new ideas for a new reality”. Will 2020 bring a breakthrough in Eastern Partnership policy? The countries being a part of this program are certainly counting on this, above all those that implement association agreements and build an in-depth free trade area with the EU. Experts note that over time, however, the program needs to be reviewed. Participants taking part in this debate will consider how the Eastern Partnership is assessed in EU member states and partner countries? Is there a chance for a consensus on the reform of this program?

Coming from a distinguished family of Heimsoeth, born in India, Hans-Jürgen Heimsoeth is a graduate of the University of Albert Ludwig in Freiburg and the Institute d´études politiques de Paris (IEP de Paris). In his professional career he held various functions in institutions in Somalia, Brazil, Sweden, and was also the personal adviser to President Richard von Weizsäcker and head of the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the OECD in Paris. In the years 2012-2015 he was the German Ambassador in Kiev. Currently, he works at the German Foreign Ministry headquarters in Berlin, being responsible for German strategy as part of the Eastern Partnership project.
