Małopolska Region

Małopolska is one of the most attractive tourist destinations and one of the most beautiful regions in the country. Małopolska has the greatest number of national parks, mineral water resources and a half of the Polish objects of the UNESCO World Heritage List is located in the region. The strength of the region lies in its enormous economic potential, infrastructure and consistently implemented enhancement strategy. It is based on three pillars: the natural and cultural heritage of Małopolska, human capital and support for the entrepreneurship in the industries of the future. These are, among others: biotechnology, IT and new technologies as well as creative industries. Constantly developed infrastructure, attractive investment conditions and above all – openness for collaboration are the reasons why many international companies locate their businesses and offices in Małopolska.

The actions undertaken by the authorities of the region have been recognized in prestigious international competitions. Building business-friendly environment, entrepreneurship development and effective spending of EU funds were appreciated by the Committee of the Regions by granting Małopolska – as the first Polish region – the label “European Entrepreneurial Region” in 2016. And in RegioStars 2016 competition organized by the European Commission the first prize was awarded to the Academy of Social Economy Development project implemented by the Regional Centre for Social Policy in Krakow. In this year’s edition of the prestigious RegioStars Awards there are two projects from the Małopolska Region – the Małopolska Agglomeration Card (MKA) and an innovative system of training vouchers, which SMEs could gain in a project implemented by the Regional Labour Office in Kraków. The winners will be announced in October.
