Georg Milbradt will be the guest of Economic Forum in Krynica

The 28th Economic Forum in Krynica will be attended by former Prime Minister of Saxony, CDU activist and economist Prof. Georg Milbradt.

Georg Milbradt studied economics, legal sciences and mathematics at the Westphalian University of Wilhelm in Münster and obtained his diploma in economics in 1968. In 1973 he defended his doctorate, and habilitated in 1980. 70s he was an academic teacher mainly at his home university, and in 1985 he returned to the position of professor. From 1980 to 1983 he lectured at the Jan Gutenberg University in Mainz.

In 1973, he joined the Christian Democratic Union. From 1975 to 1982, he was a city councillor in Münster, then headed the finance department of the city until 1990. In 1990 he became Finance Minister in the Saxony government led by Kurt Biedenkopf. He left office in 2001 after a conflict with the Prime Minister. From 1994 to 2009, he was a Member of the Saxony Landtag, and from 1999 to 2001, Deputy Chairman of the CDU in Saxony. From 2000 to 2008, he was on the board of the Chadecka federal party. In 2001 he succeeded Kurt Biedenkopf as President of the Saxon CDU and in 2002 as Prime Minister of Saxony until 2008, when he was active in the development of cross-border infrastructure between Poland and Germany and in the economic and cultural rapprochement between countries during his term in office.

During this year’s Economic Forum in Krynica Georg Milbradt will take part in a panel discussion “Cross-border investments – an opportunity for development of border regions”, which will aim to show the importance of cross-border cooperation and investments as key instruments for building good neighbourly relations between countries.
