Euroregions as a Method for the Improvement of Interregional Cooperation

Development of cross-border cooperation is one of the biggest priorities of regional policy in Europe. One of the important symptoms of European integration is developing ever closer relations and cross-border cooperation within the confines of the formal structures bringing together representatives of local and regional governments, associations and social partners which are representing regions of two or more neighboring countries. oint ventures of interconnected regions are helping to achieve social, cultural and economic goals, promoting the development and exchange of information. In turn, the effectiveness of international contacts affects social and economic development to a large extent. But the lack of development strategy and insufficiently developed economic cooperation may become obstacles to the effective development of Euroregions. How can Euroregions become a more effective tool for interregional cooperation in Europe?

The following guests will take part in the debate:

  • Ella Bohlin, Member of the Chamber of Regions, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Council of Europe;
  • Oleksandr Hanushchyn, Head of Lviv Regional Council from Ukraine;
  • Jose Maria Cunha Costa, President of Municipal Council Viana do Castelo;
  • Bogusław Waksmundzki, Chairman of the Council of Euroregion Tatry;
  • Jens Gabbe, Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR);

The discussion will be hosted by Serhii Tatusiak, Chairman of the Euroregion „Dniester”.
