Current Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia – Edgars Rinkēvičs, confirmed his participation in the Economic Forum in Krynica

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, confirmed his presence at this year’s Economic Forum in Krynica.

Mr. Rinkēvičs joined Valdis Dombrovskis’ government as Minister for Foreign Affairs already in 2011. He served as Foreign Minister in Laimdota Straujuma’s first and second government as well as in the Kučinskis cabinet. Previously he was Head of the Chancery of the President of Latvia. He also served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia in 1997-2008. In the same time he worked as Chief of the Office for organising the NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government, which took place in Riga. In 1997 he became Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy, and then subsequently the Secretary of State. In 1993, Rinkēvičs started work as a journalist reporting on foreign policy and international relations at Latvian Radio.

From 1999-2000 Mr. Rinkēvičs studied at the U.S. National Defence University, Industrial College of the Armed Forces and has a graduate degree in National Resource Strategy. He also graduated from the University of Latvia and received his Master’s degree in Political Science in 1997. He studied Political Sciences and International Relations Studies at Groningen University in The Netherlands in 1994-1995. He holds a Bachelor of History and Philosophy from University of Latvia.

He was awarded with the title of the Grand Officer of the Order of Three Stars. He also received NATO award For Meritorious Service, The Order of Orange-Nassau, The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Great Cross of the Order of Viesturs.
