FORGING A US-EU STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP:

Recommendations for Action

Washington, December 9-10, 2009

"The pace of political and economic transformations at the beginning of 21st century compels a broader outlook at challenges that the world is facing. The decisions made by governments influence not only a country’s direct neighborhood, but also the whole continents or even the globe. Dialogue and cooperation between countries must therefore go beyond local and regional boarders.

The fact that the Institute for Eastern Studies launches a meeting focused on the most burning transatlantic issues, is a natural consequence of both positive and negative aspects of globalization. International security, climate change and energy sustainability, crisis management and global governance – all these issues need to be a subject of an intense dialogue between the European Union and the United States. The main aim of the conference entitled „Forging a U.S. – EU Strategic Partnership” was indeed to create a platform of discussion for politicians, experts and scholars, journalists and business executives from both sides of the Atlantic in order to provide recommendations on how to advance the transatlantic partnership. In my opinion, this goal was fully reached and, I hope this brochure will present its key conclusions."
