Russia 2004. Report on Transformation
In April 2005 another publication of Eastern Institute was released. The Russia 2004 report is a collective work under the guidance of Konstantin Simonow, director of the Center for Current Politics in Moscow.
The official presentation of the Report, attended by K. Simonov, was held on April 13 in the editor?s office of "Rzeczpospolita" daily as a part of discussion
"Where is Russia heading?" The worst thing is that there is no one coherent vision of the future of Russia. The elites are divided and preoccupied mainly with "the problem of the year 2008", when according to the constitution ending his term of office Vladimir Putin will be forced to hand over power to his successor - said Konstantin Simonov. According to Simonov, Putin hesitates between various options; being one day in favor of more liberal solutions, another day he supports propositions made by more conservative wing, representing politicians who originate from Special Forces. It is also dangerous that more and more populism can be seen in actions of Putin these days.
