Foreign Direct Investments on the agenda of the 3rd European Congress of Local Governments
The discussion panel entitled “The Influence of FDIs on Regional Development” will be launched on 27 March in cooperation with the Gazeta Prawna daily and as part of the Economy theme path.
It is hardly possible to assess the deep impact all kinds of foreign investments had on the Polish Economy during the transformation period. In smaller settlements, a newly opened factory of a large foreign brand could define the regional developmental priorities and drastically reduce unemployment. However, FDIs have also caused some controversy due to the fact that they opted for cheap labour-based outsourcing. Which way should the foreign capital be directed in the future, in order for it to support different parts of the country even better? Which mistakes should be eliminated and which positive aspects enhanced?
Experts on local economy, local councillors and other representatives of local politics, science, as well as media will attempt to address those questions, including: Werner Pamminger, CEO of Business Upper Austria;
Svitlana Kovalivska, Deputy Director at the Institute for Social and Economic Research in Ukraine; Cezary Przybylski, Marshal of the Lower Silesia Voivodeship in Poland; Katharina Arnold, Founder and CEO of the German firm Kaliber Services; Thibaut Guignard, First Vice-President of the French Department Côtes d’Armor and Maciej Wielogorski, COO at Cityglobe Inc from USA.
The discussion will be moderated by Marek Tejchman, Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Gazeta Prawna Daily.
A guest profile:
Katharina Arnold commented on the Polish situation with regards to FDIs: „The big challenge is to attract FDI with know-how. Poland is moving up the value chain from lower-adding projects, to value added FDI with innovative research activities. Because of the high level of competition with many agencies from different CEE countries focusing on the same sectors with the same messages, Poland needs to focus on talent one of the key drivers of innovation and specific niches to build and demonstrate a competitive advantage.”
Katharina Arnold Rokita, Founder of Kaliber Consultancy and FDI expert, supports companies performing international expansion strategies and consults governments on their FDI attraction, promotion and trade activities. She provides expert analysis on investment trends across multiple sectors and countries.
