Europe after Lisbon – Strategies for the Future
Zygmunt Berdychowski
Chairman of the Programme Council of the Economic Forum in Krynica
Voice about the future of Europe
The Lisbon Treaty has dramatically changed the way of thinking about and perceiving the future of the European integration. A lively discussion about the new order in the community has already been held for quite a long time, and the first months of the treaty's binding force have made it even more animated. The new way of thinking about the European Union does not only refer to the political sphere, but also very important economic issues: economic stability, energy security, the future of public finance. Hence, many discussions how to stimulate the economy recovering slowly from the deep crisis.
The Economic Forum in Krynica has always had an important voice in the debate about the future of Europe. The annual meeting this year, its size and the rank of guests prove that this voice has been especially important, and the echoes of Krynica's discussions reverberate not only in entire Europe, but also far beyond its borders. Everyone, who is today in Krynica must admit that the concept of the Forum has resisted the crisis. And I mean here not only the economic aspects, but rather continuously growing variety and versatility of experiences, views and opinions, which are covered by the debates in Krynica.

Forum of Regions
8-10 September 2010 Muszyna, Krynica-Zdroj
More than ten discussion panels are anticipated in the programme of this year’s Forum of Regions. Debates of the Forum of Regions will begin with the panel ”Strategy Europe 2020 and cohesion policy”, which will be devoted to the new strategy „Europe 2020” announced by the European Commission. In the intention of its authors, this strategy has three priorities: smart growth based on knowledge and innovations, sustainable development based on low emission economy and support for increase of employment and economic, territorial and social cohesion. However, there are also voices that this strategy brings the risk of segmentation of the EU budget to the detriment of the Cohesion Policy. It is worth therefore to consider how strategy „Europe 2020” should be introduced, so that financing of new goals, such as fight against climatic changes or innovativeness, would not be realized at the expense of spending for agriculture, but act as a supplementary element. A novelty of this year’s Forum will be a special financial track, which will include panels and lectures focusing on the topic: Long-term financial forecast – new approach to planning and management of public finances. The Forum of Regions will be held under honorary auspices of the Minister of Regional Development, Mrs Elżbieta Bieńkowska.
IV Investment Forum, - “Year of big privatization”
7-8 September 2010 Tarnow
Year 2010 is expected to be record-breaking in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of the number of big IPOs – initial public offerings of shares. For investors, both individual and institutional, it is a good news: interesting offers are always in the centre of their attention. They are a promise of profits and opportunity for greater diversification of portfolios. It is also a very good news for the capital market in Central and Eastern Europe. It is also fantastic news for individual states, which always treat revenues from privatisation as very serious supplement to their budgets. It seems that it is worth to make a summary today and find out if the reality has fulfilled expectations of governments, stock exchanges and investors? Presentations and discussion during the Forum will be attended by more than 200 guests representing such sectors as: energy, fuel, banking, insurance, large-scale chemical synthesis, advisory and consulting. Representatives of governments and foreign diplomatic corps are also expected to arrive to the Forum. The Investment Forum is held under the honorary auspices of Mr Aleksander Grad, Minister of State Treasury of Poland.
